Find your local Delegate
DarkSky Delegates are your local points of contact.
Delegates are DarkSky Advocates who have agreed to be a local point of contact for others seeking to get involved or learn more about night sky protection.
Delegates have added responsibilities and are the go-to mentors and dark sky authorities for their regions.
DarkSky has over 100 Delegates in over 30 countries around the globe.

Become a DarkSky Delegate
Take a step up from Advocate and help others who want to get involved in the action. As a DarkSky Delegate, you are the local contact on the ground in your region — the face of the movement to protect dark skies.
Delegates may be identified with a specialization, such as Dark Sky Educator or Astrophotographer, and are required to submit annual reports on their activities.
Responsibilities
- Attend monthly Advocate meetings when possible, participate in and be active on our Slack channel: idaadvocates.slack.com
- Delegates are encouraged to participate in their local chapter if they live within an existing chapter geography. If their work expands beyond the chapter boundaries, or they’re working on a particular project that deserves recognition, exceptions may be granted if coordinated with the local chapter.
- Written annual report (required)
- Written monthly report (optional)
Requirements
- Be an active member of the DarkSky Advocates Network for at least three months.
- Be a paid member. We encourage all Delegates to be active DarkSky members at a meaningful level.
- Commit to DarkSky’s mission/vision/values and the Five Principles of Responsible Outdoor Lighting.
How to become a Delegate
Note: We are not currently accepting new Delegate applications due to organizational changes. Please check back at a later time.
- Take the DarkSky 101 training
- Participate in the Advocates Network for three months (this requirement may be waived if the individual is well known in the field or where other Delegates can attest to your work and reputation). Attend or review monthly Advocate meetings and participate in Slack.
- Review the DarkSky Handbook for Delegates.
- Submit your application. Applications are reviewed at the beginning of each month. If approved, you’ll be required to sign the Delegate Agreement.
