DarkSky International (formerly known as International Dark-Sky Association) is committed to protecting your data privacy. The information below covers what information is collected on our website and how we use it.

What information do we collect?
Our websites collect information volunteered by visitors, such as answers to survey questions, information collected when downloading or requesting publications, and information collected when contacting us for assistance. Information we collect includes personally identifiable information (for example, name, address, and email), information about organizational affiliation, and information about your dark sky conservation interests. No personally-identifiable information is collected about individuals without their knowledge. We also collect aggregate information about website use, without identifying personal information, such as what pages and sections are most popular with users.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen years of age.
How is this information used?
We use the information you voluntarily provide to help us decide what website content, publications, emails, and other information would most help you meet your dark sky conservation interests and to shape our web content and email outreach. We may also contact you to alert you about a dark sky action opportunity in your area or to ask you to support our work. We use aggregate information about website usage to shape website content.
Sharing information with third parties
We share aggregate information about web users and web usage with our contractors who help us shape web content to user interests and otherwise improve our website. DarkSky may share your Personal Information within the DarkSky network of Chapters and affiliated DarkSky organizations in order to identify local advocates for a joint event or action. You may opt-out from receiving communications from DarkSky by contacting Member Services at [email protected].When you take action to support conservation, such as participating in an Action Alert or sending a letter to your Elected Representative, DarkSky may send your personal information, such as your name and residential address, to the target of the action (e.g., a member of Congress, a government agency).
Email and mail policy
DarkSky International provides forms on our websites where users can sign-up to receive email publications and email notices and conservation topics. No one is placed on a regular email list that has not requested subscription through these forms or in some other manner. Users can unsubscribe from any email list through the unsubscribe link on any email we send you. As new email publications are developed, users may be sent an invitation to subscribe.
Mobile text messages
When you opt in to receive messages from DarkSky, the data we collect for each SMS/MMS message may include your mobile telephone number, your carrier’s name and the date, time and content of your messages. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent information will not be shared with any third parties.
Security of your information
DarkSky is committed to protecting the information you provide to us. We employ multiple layers of physical, technical and administrative controls, including firewalls, anti-virus software and encryption technology, to protect the availability, confidentiality and integrity of our systems and the information stored there. Access to our systems for staff and, when appropriate, contractors and volunteers is permission-based.

DarkSky uses cookies and Google Analytics to gather anonymous data so we can gain information on our web users’ experience. Cookies are pieces of information that are stored on your computer to make visiting and using our website easier. Cookies also help us improve your experience on darksky.org. No personally identifiable information is collected or used via this means.
