Chapters are local and regional organizations that bring DarkSky’s mission directly to communities, leading efforts to protect the night and promote responsible outdoor lighting.

Spanning six continents, more than 70 officially recognized or partnered chapter organizations form a global network supported by DarkSky International. Chapters organize community events, provide education, and advocate for responsible lighting policies that help protect the night in communities around the world.

The role of DarkSky Chapters:

Become a DarkSky Chapter

We are thrilled by your interest in establishing a local DarkSky Chapter! Chapters drive our mission through community-level action—uniting advocates, leading outreach, advancing smart lighting policies, and guiding Dark Sky Place designations.

Please note that interest forms are reviewed by the New Chapter Committee twice a year during our Spring and Fall cycles, which is also when new Chapters are formally welcomed.

Please review the DarkSky U.S. Chapter Handbook (global chapter handbook coming soon) to learn more about the expectations, structure, and responsibilities of running a Chapter, and then fill out the new chapter interest form if you are ready to proceed.
